When someone dies in Kagurabachi, the book usually keeps the hole. This page is a ledger of named deaths already in print, not a kill-count and not a speculation board. If a name is missing, the magazine has not closed the file. Silence is not a corpse. Lineage of the living: families. Calendar: the present tense.
Before chapter 1
Kunishige Rokuhira is dead when the first page opens. Thirty-seven. Birthday June 5. Three Hishaku sorcerers hit the workshop; he dies in front of Chihiro; six wartime blades leave the cellar; Enten stays with the son. The raid is the present-tense plot’s unfinished business. File: Kunishige. Night: the raid.
The other Enchanted Blade smiths are also gone by the time Chihiro is hunting. The magazine has not given them a chapter of their own. Their absence is why there is no second shop that can just make more weather.
Ibuki Misaka dies in the same campaign, murdered by Hokuto so Cloud Gouger’s Lifelong Contract opens. Natsuki is his brother. The state’s first cavalry after the sale is named for this sword. File: Ibuki.
The Kyonagi are a people the plot already killed except for Char. Regeneration, including other people’s. Sojo held her as a Datenseki stabilizer. Her mother was inventory in the same experiment. The clan is a hole Char has to walk around.
Tokyo street
The first volume kills people the city will not name. The three men who pick the wrong cafe table exist to show that Chihiro’s work is already public and that Shiba is already cleaning up after it.
Norisaku Madoka, Daruma sorcerer, works for Sojo and dies for talking. Chapter 8 is his name on the title: “Norisaku Madoka: I Will Change.” Talk about the customer and the customer ends you. File: Madoka.
Genichi Sojo dies after Enten bisects Cloud Gouger, in the Datenseki backlash of a mineral he could not tame. Thirty. Birthday June 6. True Realm as slaughter, then a customer who chose the stone over living with a stump. Char is still in the building. That is the version that matters: the girl who was cargo watches the buyer leave the board. Four of the Anti-Cloud Gouger Special Forces die in the same city trying the state’s version of the job. Hagiwara loses his legs. Kazane loses an arm. File: Sojo. Fight: Chihiro vs Sojo.
The 208th Rakuzaichi
Tenri Sazanami eats a half-stable Datenseki tool — jellyfish, then the crater — trying to impress the head of the building. The experiment outlives the experimenter. Sojo’s fake stones keep killing people Char never met.
Kyora Sazanami, eleventh head, dies looking through Shinuchi. He sees the Sword Master. He dies as himself long enough to admit what he did to Hakuri. The auctioneer who treated the Storehouse as civilization discovers that a religion can be looted. File: Kyora. Architecture: the Storehouse.
Soya loses when the building answers someone else. Enji asks to die and is told to raise what is left. Those are fates, not always funerals. This ledger will not promote a lost fight into a confirmed grave.
Sanso, hotel, headquarters
The Kokugoku Steam Squad, including Fushimi and Smoke Axe, beat Datenseki-powered hired troops and then die to Hiruhiko. Chapter 48 is titled for the squad. They get a name and a grave in the same week. That is how the bureau spends specialists: named, competent, insufficient.
Uruha is cut down at Senkutsuji. It looks like a Hishaku pact. It is Suzaku: kill the contract, keep the man. Treat the announcement as a fact about the performance, not as a fact about the body. Uruha walks. The “death” was surgery.
Kudo spends Warrior’s Path on Hakuri during the HQ assault and dies. Send a body in a direction, through walls and floors. The bureau’s best argument that not everyone in the building was Kasen. File: Kudo.
Seiichi Samura spends Black Suzaku at the end of Part 1 so Chihiro can leave. Then the daughter inherits the feathers. File: Samura.
The war book
Hiroto Soga is killed on Irishima by Ariu Mikaboshi. Kurotsuchi, directional gravity. File: Hiroto.
Mashiro, Akuu, air pressure, alive in the Irishima talks, dies later to Ariu. File: Mashiro.
~200,000 civilians in Malediction are the largest number on this site and the least named. The Kamunabi filed it as victory. Kunishige confiscated the six swords. That cover-up is the setting, not a twist. Essay: Malediction.
How the book spends a death
Hokazono rarely gives a death a monologue. He gives it a room, a witness, and a job the dead person can no longer do. Kunishige’s job was the shop. Sojo’s job was the storm. A Steam Squad’s job was a hot-spring box. When the person is gone, the job becomes a problem for the living. The Hishaku’s three-year work was to move names off the bearer roster and onto a new contract. Samura’s work was to move names off the list and leave the people walking.
Yura has survived every public encounter so far. That is a fact about the present, not a prophecy. Two of the ten stay unnamed. Official chapters: VIZ / MANGA Plus.
