Overview
Uruha was chosen young and never recovered from being chosen. Kunishige’s death empties him; Chihiro’s existence refills the oath. The Hishaku send Hiruhiko and Datenseki infantry at the train. Samura “kills” him at Senkutsuji, Suzaku, not betrayal, so the Lifelong Contract dies and Kumeyuri can be pulled off the board. Uruha wakes in a morgue with his old sorcery coming back and walks into the Kamunabi raid to keep Hakuri alive.
Personality
He treated Kunishige like a vocation. That is not fan language. It is the way a prodigy survives being chosen: the smith’s name becomes the reason the war was tolerable. When the Hishaku kill Kunishige, the vocation has nowhere to go. He loses the will to live. Then he meets the son, and the oath has a face again. Loyalty to the Rokuhira name is the whole remaining architecture.
He mastered Iai White Purity by sixteen. The speed school mocked until it killed the mockers is, in his hands, a vocation’s posture: sheathed, exact, no leftover motion. He is not Samura. He does not carry the Malediction as a private religion. He carries the smith. Chihiro watching him is the series handing the next generation a teacher who still believes the name is worth the train.
The false death does not make him bitter. He wakes in a morgue with Crimson Recital coming back and walks into a Kamunabi raid for Hakuri. The prodigy who emptied when Kunishige died has learned the other half of the household: keep the person who moves the blades alive. That is the Rokuhira brief without a sword in his hand.
Abilities
Kumeyuri is theater. Banquet takes the senses, a hallucination that kills hearing and sight unless the ears are reinforced. Play takes the set: move objects; respect makes the telekinesis smoother. Spirit energy leaves as faceless oiran. It is the fifth forged of the wartime six. Uruha was the war bearer. After the false death, Hiruhiko inherits the blade and discovers the extension: if Play is respect, contempt is a wrecking ball. Destructive Play drops the upper floors of the Kyoto Bloodshed Hotel. Samura takes the sword off him. Ro of the Masumi recovers it.
Iai White Purity, mastered by sixteen. He and Samura are Shirakai’s famous students. Chihiro copies the style off them and off Iori. Eyes closed is the curriculum. On the train and in the kabuki house he is still the prodigy; Hiruhiko is the scene. The Lifelong Contract keeps Crimson Recital dark until Samura cuts the contract without cutting the man. The old art limps back in the morgue.
He is not the fastest. That is Samura. He is the one who treated the smith as a calling and the blade as a banquet the war required. Kokugoku Hot Spring is his Sanso. The Hishaku send Datenseki infantry because a half-stable stone is cheaper than another Enchanted Blade, and because Sojo already proved the ore can kill a room.
Story role
After the raid he is locked in the Kokugoku Sanso. The Sword Bearer Assassination arc opens on his train, chapter 47, Volume 6, Daybreak. Chihiro and Hakuri are sent to keep him alive. Hiruhiko boards. The fight falls into a kabuki house. At Senkutsuji, Hakuri returns Tobimune to Samura. Samura clears the temple and cuts Uruha down. It looks like the Hishaku pact. It is Suzaku. The contract dies. Kumeyuri can be pulled off the board. Uruha is not on the board.
He wakes in a morgue. Crimson Recital returns. While Owl hangs over the country and Iori’s hotel comes apart, Uruha is the dead man walking. In Tokyo, Kasen’s leak is on the table, Kudo dies for Hakuri, and Uruha walks into the Kamunabi raid to keep the Storehouse alive. Volume 10’s jacket puts him in a four-man war ensemble with Natsuki, Hokuto, and Yura. He is the bearer who outlived his own assassination by being murdered correctly.
He is loyal to the Rokuhira name past the point where the name has a living smith. Chihiro is the substitute and then the reason. Part 1 ends with Akemura loose and Kumeyuri already recovered from Hiruhiko. Uruha is still the prodigy. He just no longer has to die to prove it.
Relationships
Kunishige is the vocation. Chihiro is the son who refills the oath. Samura is the other Iai student, the fastest, the man who “kills” him as mercy. That cut is the most intimate thing the two bearers do to each other on the page. Hakuri is the later rescue: Uruha walks into the raid because the discarded Sazanami is now the reason swords arrive on time.
Hiruhiko is the Hishaku sent to make a scene, Blood Crane on the train, then Play at the hotel once Kumeyuri is his. Hiruhiko does not love objects. Uruha’s blade requires respect to move the room smoothly. The mismatch is the demolition. Ro of the Masumi recovers the sword. Iori is the other Iai inheritor, memory-sealed until the hotel; Uruha does not teach her. He is the proof the style outlives the war if someone cuts the contract cleanly.

The candidate who was chosen
Natsuki Misaka was in the room for Kumeyuri. Uruha was chosen. That resentment is printed on Natsuki’s file, not inferred. Uruha mastered Iai White Purity by sixteen, treats the Rokuhira name as a vocation, and loses the will to live when Kunishige dies. Seeing Chihiro refills the oath. Samura’s Suzaku kills the contract and keeps the man. Crimson Recital limps back. He walks into HQ to keep Hakuri alive and then stands next to Natsuki against Yura and Hokuto, which is a cruel jacket joke: the man who got the blade and the man who wanted it, fighting the killer of Natsuki’s brother.
