The book opens after that night and spends a hundred-plus chapters teaching who ordered it, who walked in, who leaked the address, and what the son did with the sword that stayed. Who walked in
Three sorcerers. Hokuto in samurai clothes, armored puppet, the man who also murdered Ibuki Misaka so Cloud Gouger’s contract would open. Uran, ice, breath that freezes and restrains. A third raider still unnamed among the ten. They did not need the fire-gate for a workshop massacre. Three people in a house is enough. Yura ordered it. Kunishige dies at 37, birthday June 5, in front of Chihiro. The six wartime Enchanted Blades leave the cellar he spent years trying to smash. Enten stays with the son. That is the whole inventory change. The public still thinks there are six swords. The Kamunabi want six. The seventh was never on their books.
The leak
Kasen leaked the address. Director, barriers and sealing, one of the people who sealed Shinuchi after the war with Ichiki and Yatsuru. He believed Enchanted Blades could create order. He hired the Hishaku as a path back to the steel. The Hishaku used him as a path to the house. The Kamunabi learn this later. Azami and Shiba had hidden Kunishige after Malediction. Ichiki helped. The bureau that filed 200,000 civilians as victory also hid the smith who confiscated the weapons. Kasen’s faction wanted those weapons used. Those two bureaus shared a building until Yura walked to the cell. The raid is what happens when one director decides the hide is the problem.
The same campaign
Ibuki dies in the same campaign, not necessarily in the same room. Cloud Gouger’s Lifelong Contract opens. Three years later Yura sells the weather to Sojo in early October. What the raid bought
Six blades the Hishaku cannot fully use while the bearers live. A seventh they never took. A son who treats goldfish as partners. A customer for Cloud Gouger. A listing for Shinuchi at the 208th Rakuzaichi after Yura cracks the seal. A private paper with Samura. A hotel kidnapping aimed at a daughter. A headquarters assault aimed at a cell. The raid is the first move in that sequence, not the last.

What chapter 1 does with this night
The first issue does not stage the raid as a tournament fight. It stages the aftermath: Chihiro on the floor, Enten already in his hands, then a cut to the eighteen-year-old already working.
