Overview
Akemura is not a berserker who lost the plot. He is a patriot who decided the island should not exist. Magatsumi is the only Enchanted Blade without a tidy three-technique kit and the only one that can overwrite another body. After the flowers finished their work he handed himself in. The other bearers could not stop him. The Kamunabi built a myth instead of a trial.
His life is tied to the other five wartime contracts: if he dies, they die. That knot is why nobody simply executes the monster in the basement. When Yura finally reaches the cell, Akemura is still lucid. He takes the offered body and goes back to work.
Personality
A patriot who decided the island should not exist. Not a berserker who lost the plot. Magatsumi’s True Realm is policy: he aims the blade’s life-drain at an entire civilian population after a treaty exists, and the sword learns a wider mouth. Flowers are the visual because the steel already ate people as gardens. He asked for a field the size of a nation. About 200,000 civilians. The Kamunabi called it a victory anyway.
He handed himself in when the flowers finished. The other bearers could not stop him. The state built a myth instead of a trial. He is still lucid in the cell years later. That lucidity is the scary political joke. Yura wanted him dead to open a Lifelong Contract. Yura meets him and recognizes a colleague. Akemura does not rant. He takes a body and goes back to work.
He is Chiaki’s younger brother, Kunishige’s most trusted friend, Chihiro’s uncle. The Soga were mainland prophecy aristocracy; Chiaki’s foresight is the clan’s warrant. Akemura is the brother who turned that warrant into a massacre. Part 1’s retrospectives call it sane genocide. The archive’s sentence is the same: he is not confused. He is finished.
Abilities
Magatsumi, Shinuchi, the masterpiece, is the only Enchanted Blade without a tidy three-technique kit and the only one that can overwrite another body. The steel weeps black, darkens ground, and blooms. Touch the field and branches find your mouth. The wielder eats what the field takes. Spider pins. Dragonfly and Bee are directional disasters. Centipede is omnidirectional. Butterfly cuts a building and keeps going. Anyone who holds the sheathed blade starts becoming Akemura.
Malediction, Kodoku, is not one of the insect names. It is an extension, True Realm as policy. Once Magatsumi entered the field, Japan could walk onto the island. That is the official sentence. The unofficial one is the flowers after the treaty. The blade can bypass its own contract. Kyora touches it while dying and the Sword Master looks through the auctioneer’s eyes. Yura spends it without drawing it. The possession path is the unique clause.
If Akemura dies, the other five wartime bearers die. Destroy Magatsumi and the knot comes apart. That is why Enten’s True Realm is this sword’s death, and why Nishiki is built to shrug off Spider and vitality-drain. The uncle is the design brief. Chihiro does not start the book knowing that.
Story role
In the Seitei War he is the Sword Master. The blades enter at plus one year and five months and reverse the front. After the treaty he uses Malediction anyway. The Mikaboshi, old sorcerer kings the Soga once drove off the mainland, had come back with bodies that could survive Datenseki. Ariu Mikaboshi killed Hiroto and Yoshinojo Soga on the island. After the blades arrived, Shokoku overthrew its royals and signed a peace. Akemura voided it with flowers. Then he handed himself in. Kunishige confiscated the six blades. The Kamunabi built a myth. The remaining bearers learned to live with a knot in the basement.
He is off-page for most of Part 1 and still the water the plot swims in. Kyora unsheathes Magatsumi in the collapsing Storehouse and almost becomes someone else. Yura cracks the seal, lists Shinuchi at the 208th Rakuzaichi, then spends the blade at range in Tokyo. When Yura finally reaches the cell, Akemura is lucid. Volume 11, Heroes, is snow, goldfish, and the Sword Master standing up in another man.
Yura, losing, gives the body. Magatsumi breaks Enten. Samura’s black Suzaku argues with the field long enough for Chihiro to leave. Samura dies. Akemura is loose in the Kamunabi. Chapters 106–115 spend the last of the present tense. Part 2 returns to Irishima and Chiaki, the sister, the princess, the talks before the ore, and to a swordsmith who has not yet looked at the stone that will make this man possible.
Relationships
Chiaki Soga is the older sister, Chihiro’s mother, Princess Soga, foresight as inherited proof of Izanami. Kunishige was the most trusted friend and the brother-in-law who confiscated the blades afterward. Chihiro is the nephew who inherited the seventh sword built to kill this one. Shiba guarded the Soga before the war and hid the smith after it.
The other wartime bearers could not stop him and then succeeded in the press. Samura carries the guilt as a religion and dies holding Magatsumi back. Yura wanted him dead to open a contract, then recognized a colleague and offered a body. Kyora is a proxy: the auctioneer who touched the sheathed masterpiece and started becoming the Master. The Kamunabi, Kasen especially, still think the blades are a path to order. That is how you get a director leaking a smith’s address, and a myth instead of a trial.

Brother, uncle, mineral
Part 2 will not let him stay a basement. Chiaki is his sister. Kunishige is his friend. The Mikaboshi are the old kings the Soga once drove off the mainland. Ariu’s insects are a comparison some readers make with Magatsumi’s kit; the chapters have not confirmed it. Malediction is still the crime. The talks are still talks. The kiln in chapters 125–129 is still making the steel that will make the flowers possible. Kasen wanted that steel as order. Yura offered a body. Samura died in the gap. Chihiro kept pieces. The vein essay is the mineral. The Part 2 page is the magazine. The insect kit is the list without a three-count.
