The Soga were the most influential sorcerer clan in Japan for centuries before the Seitei War. A woman in each generation can see. That foresight is treated as inherited proof of Izanami, and it is why governments listen. Chiaki holds the Princess Soga title in Part 2. Akemura is her younger brother. They were elevated from a lower branch when the main-line prophetess died without children. The clan is not a single will. Hiroto is the stoic head. Yoshinojo is the grinning veteran. Giyu is the ambitious brother who might trade the princess. Shiba guarded them. Kunishige sold swords to people he could stand, which included this house, which is how a picky civilian becomes the man who will smelt their war.
The Mikaboshi were sorcerer kings. The Soga pushed them off the mainland more than a thousand years ago. Ukizane Soga nearly finished them. The Mikaboshi king used Datenseki to build an enormous spherical habitat of branches under the ocean. They adapted. When Irishima’s earthquake showed a vein and Shokoku rose from the sea, they came back for the ore. The Seitei War is that return. Ariu, crown prince, kills Hiroto and Yoshinojo on the island. The blades enter at plus one year and five months. Shokoku overthrows its royals and signs a peace. Akemura voids the peace with flowers. About 200,000 civilians. The Kamunabi file it as heroes. Part 2 is the talks before that filing.
The Soga in the present tense of Part 2
Chiaki: foresight, title, Kunishige’s hope in chapter 129’s fire, Chihiro’s mother, not yet. Akemura: not yet Sword Master, still the friend a smith trusts, still the brother a princess loves. Hiroto: Kurotsuchi, directional gravity, crush or levitate, among the strongest alive before Datenseki royalty walks onto Irishima. Yoshinojo: experienced, eager, dies with Hiroto to Ariu. Giyu: next in line, willing to accept ceasefire terms that include handing Chiaki over. That last fact is why a title is also a hostage tag. Shiba tells Kunishige not to lose hope when the princess rank puts distance between them. The clan’s warrant is Chiaki’s eyes. The clan’s risk is everyone who wants those eyes in a different building.
Ariu and the camp
Ariu Mikaboshi: Sumika, insect constructs, poisoned air that dulls senses, a body Datenseki has already rewritten. After chapter 119, explainers argued Magatsumi is those insects recast in Kunishige’s steel: wartime blades as six royal sorcerers copied. What is printed: once Magatsumi entered the field, Japan could walk onto the island. What is printed: Magatsumi has no three-count and overwrites other bodies. What is printed: Malediction. The camp sits next to the insect kit. Ariu is the prince who kills two Soga on Irishima and poisons the air around a war for a vein.
Why this is the setting
The Kamunabi exist because this war existed. Enchanted Blades exist because Shiba believed Kunishige’s eyes could turn the vein into something other than craters. Enten exists because the wartime six could not be smashed after Akemura used one of them as policy. Chihiro’s revenge exists because Kasen leaked a smith who was sorry. Part 2 exists because the book is willing to put a conference table and a kiln on the page instead of another hotel. The Soga are the mainland’s warning system. The Mikaboshi are the warning, coming back. Datenseki is the object. Flowers are what a trusted friend does with the object after a treaty.
