Overview
Cloud Gouger leaves the body as clouds and cloud-dragons. Sojo’s cloaked Mei is the first time the series shows an extension: instead of throwing the lightning, wear it. Chihiro’s last use, Mei: Shred, turns the lightning black because the blade is dying, the same “dark power” rule that later paints Suzaku.
Kou exists to make the other two worse. Water is a wire. Ice is a larger Yui. It is a craftsman’s weather kit, which is why Sojo loved it and why Chihiro refused to let the last inch of it vanish unused.
History
Ibuki Misaka carried Cloud Gouger through the Seitei War. After the raid on the Rokuhira house, Yura’s Hishaku had the six wartime blades. Hokuto killed Ibuki. The contract opened. They sold the sword to Genichi Sojo in early October, a customer, not a member. Sojo used it to chase Char and to chase the idea that he could mass-produce Kunishige.
The Anti-Cloud Gouger Special Forces, six people built to solve one sword, die around him. Four of the six are gone. Hagiwara loses his legs. Kazane loses an arm. Chihiro loses an arm and still reaches True Realm first. Enten cuts Cloud Gouger in half: the first time one of Kunishige’s wartime swords is shown to be mortal. Sojo fuses with unstable Datenseki rather than admit the experiment failed. The compound goes with him. See Vs. Sojo.
Chihiro keeps the pieces and takes a dying contract. Even a dead blade can still spend a few charges of Mei. At the 208th Rakuzaichi he walks in with Cloud Gouger’s stump, spends the last of Kuregumo inside the Storehouse to take Enten back, and retains the fragments.
Techniques
Mei 鳴
Lightning. A bolt with a charge delay, the pause is the tell, and the opening. Cloaked Mei is the extension: wear the lightning instead of throwing it. Sojo finds that reading first. Mei: Shred is Chihiro’s last use, black because the steel is dying.
Yui 結
Ice. Instant cages and constructs. It stops a room the way Mei empties one. Fed by Kou, it gets larger.
Kou 降
Water or mist. Conducts Mei. Feeds Yui. The third technique is not a finisher; it is the weather that makes the other two worse.
True Realm
Sojo wanted the blade to “gain slaughter” and was delighted when it did. That wish is True Realm as autobiography. Chihiro’s True Realm, reached first in the same fight, is a different brief pointed at a different sword. See Sojo, Kunishige’s worst fan.
Why Sojo loved it
Sojo is the only early villain who can talk about the Enchanted Blades without sounding like a government memo. Cloud Gouger is a kit: lightning, ice, water, each one making the next more useful. He understood the craft as slaughter and called that honesty. He wanted to mass-produce Kunishige. He wanted Char’s clan as a stabilizer. He never lived with the smith. He never saw the bowl.
Chihiro hates him and recognizes him. Both of them think the work is the most important object in Japan. Chihiro will not let the last inch of the blade vanish unused. That is not sentiment. It is a smith’s son refusing to waste steel. By the end of Part 1 he is taking notes toward a new Cloud Gouger from the pieces he still holds.
Who held it
Ibuki Misaka, wartime, Samura’s equal, retired, murdered by Hokuto. Sojo, customer, cloaked Mei, True Realm as slaughter, Datenseki suicide. Chihiro, dying contract, Mei: Shred, black because the blade is dying, last charges at the Rakuzaichi, pieces in the bag, notes toward forging it again. Natsuki never held it.
