Part 1 is a revenge story that keeps having to become something else. It runs from chapter 1 through 115, “Swordsmith,” and it is three movements with a long last book: Vs. Sojo, Rakuzaichi, then the Sword Bearer Assassination. Each movement is a larger version of the same argument. Who gets to hold Kunishige’s work. Who gets spent so the steel can move. Who the state will file as a hero when the flowers are already on the ground.
Vs. Sojo teaches the rules in eighteen chapters. Lifelong Contracts. Datenseki as a bomb. A government squad built for one sword that still dies around it. A protagonist who will spend an arm before he spends Char. Sojo is the dark mirror of Kunishige-love: he understood the craft as slaughter and never had to live with the man. Cloud Gouger is the first wartime blade to appear and the first to die. Enten files the correction that the jackets sold as immortal steel.
Rakuzaichi is the 208th auction and the first time the book has to keep a building full of people alive. Hakuri is the son the Sazanami called empty. Hiyuki is the Kamunabi as a person you might stand next to. Chihiro lets the clan take Enten so the seventh blade can scout the Storehouse on its own charge, then walks back in with Cloud Gouger’s stump. Kyora touches Magatsumi. The Sword Master looks through an auctioneer’s eyes. Chihiro hands Shinuchi to the state and keeps Enten by joining them. Then a Sanso is attacked, and the next book starts on a train.
Sword Bearer Assassination is the long book, chapters 47 through 115, volumes 6 through 12. Contracts come due. Uruha, Samura, Iori, Kasen’s leak, Yura offering Akemura a body. Enten is built as a retraction and then has to prove it. Part 1 ends on a smith and a princess, which is the series admitting the war never stayed in the past.
Part 2 is the Seitei War, chapter 116 onward. Irishima, Chiaki, the talks, the ore, Kunishige before he was a hermit. The present-tense plot already told you the island rose, Japan took the stone, the Mikaboshi came back, and Akemura used Malediction after a treaty. The uncollected chapters are the smithing manual and an unfinished war. The timeline holds the dated facts. Named clashes, room by room: battles. The cards below are the four movements as printed.
