It beat Spy × Family, Dragon Ball Super, and Boruto on the global ranking. People were actually reading.
Jump 2023 #42, 19 September. First long work after a Tezuka one-shot already named Enten and a run of Giga / Jump shorts. VIZ and MANGA Plus ran the English simulpub the same week, which is why a hashtag in New York could become a first-week chart in every timezone the app serves. Chapter 1 is usually free forever on MANGA Plus. That is how the joke became readers. People did not have to find a scan. They had to tap a title.
Hokazono walked into an Anime NYC room that was not billed as a main event and found it stuffed. ANN’s write-up is the useful one: the joke fandom became a real one because the pages were good, not because the hashtag was loud. He talked goldfish, John Wick streets, and a favorite fight, Chihiro vs Sojo, in a room that had come for a meme and stayed for a craftsman. Next Manga Award, print category, 2024. VIZ’s English tankōbon started 5 November 2024 and has eight volumes released or solicited through late 2026. An anime from Cypic, directed by Tetsuya Takeuchi, is scheduled for April 2027. The teaser visual still sells the three fish. Official tags now include #BachiAnime. The 2023 posts did not plan that. The pages did.
The archive’s position is unromantic. Ironic hype got the first chapter opened. The Vs. Sojo fight, Hakuri, and Samura are why people stayed. Volume 2 is the duel. Volumes 3–5 are the auction. The meme page can stay a history of a joke. The publication record is the joke’s aftermath as numbers. Sunday still lives under one tag. The legal way to be there is still shorter than the leak way.
The jokes as pictures now have two rooms. The Sunday wall typesets them on official stills: enough time has passed, goldfish, wartime steel is mortal.
