Civilian sorcerers handle small jobs. The Kamunabi exist because some jobs are national. Yōjutsu and yōtō share a kanji. An Enchanted Blade is sorcery that left the body and did not come back. Everyone else on this page is still working from inside the nervous system.
Innate arts
The named arts that appear on this site, unpacked only as far as the pages already go:
- Shiba’s teleport, infiltration, extraction, civilian evacuation. The practical magic of the series. He was already famous as a teenager. He is not a blade bearer. He does not need to be.
- Azami’s Coin, a Kamunabi leader’s named art. He trained under Ichiki with Shiba; later he helps hide Kunishige. The coin is the name the text gives the work.
- Hakuri’s Isou and Storehouse, Isou is the clan’s burial-force technique. It would not answer him while he scattered his own spirit energy. The Storehouse (Kura) is the subspace the family head uses to warehouse loot and people. Hakuri is one of two Sazanami in clan history to hold both. He can register a person and their charged possessions, then move blades across the country.
- Hiyuki’s Flame Bone, Flame Bone of the Starving (Gasha no Enkotsu), a Kagari hereditary: pieces of a giant flaming skeleton. One of the few arts the text will stand next to an Enchanted Blade. Authorization up to a line, ribs, torso, as if the Kamunabi issued a license for how much she can wear to work. See Flame Bone essay.
- Tafuku’s duel domain, Hiyuki’s partner. His calm is the other half of the act. Together they are the Kamunabi as it wishes it looked.
- Char’s regeneration, Kyonagi clan flesh. She can close her own wounds and other people’s. Sojo hunted the clan as a Datenseki stabilizer. She is why the revenge plot has to share the page with a living person who is not a combatant.
- Hagiwara’s magnetism, Anti-Cloud Gouger Special Forces. Six people built to solve one sword. He loses his legs. The art does not save the squad.
- Natsuki’s Lightning Menace, Kamunabi. On the Volume 10 jacket with Hokuto, Uruha, and Yura: the state’s swordsman in a four-man war photograph.
- Hiruhiko’s Blood Crane, Hishaku. The train to Kokugoku, the kabuki house. Then he picks up Kumeyuri and the crane is no longer the loudest thing in the room.
- Kuguri’s Twilight Wave, Hishaku. Chihiro copies Iai by watching him and the house style at the Kyoto Bloodshed Hotel.
- Toto’s blood tracking, Hishaku. A hunter’s art. Named on this site; used as a reason the group can find a body.
- Uruha’s Crimson Recital, returns when the Lifelong Contract on Kumeyuri breaks. He wakes in a morgue with the old nerves coming back and walks into the Kamunabi raid to keep Hakuri alive.
Lifelong Contracts
A Lifelong Contract (Meimetsu Keiyaku) binds an Enchanted Blade to one nervous system and shuts the innate art off. Uruha cannot use Crimson Recital while Kumeyuri is his. Magatsumi’s contract is the master key: if Akemura dies, the other five wartime bearers die with him. Destroy Magatsumi and the knot comes apart.
Cut the contract without cutting the person, Samura’s specialty, Suzaku at Senkutsuji, and the old art limps back. The Hishaku spent three years trying to open the wartime contracts by killing bearers. That is a cruder method. See Enchanted Blades.
True Realm
True Realm (Honryō) enters the vocabulary in chapter 14. It is not a transformation gauge. It is what the wielder wants the steel to do when they finally mean it. Sojo’s Cloud Gouger “gained slaughter” because that was his brief. Enten’s True Realm is Magatsumi’s death. Akemura’s Malediction is True Realm as policy: a wider mouth after a treaty already existed.
Extensions and “dark power” are the same agreement at the brink, Mei: Shred when Cloud Gouger is dying, black Suzaku when Samura spends the last of his life. Intent, mortality, and Datenseki have to line up. The ore without the intent is a crater. See Datenseki.
Iai White Purity Style
Itsuo Shirakai’s speed school, mocked until it killed the mockers. Samura and Uruha are the famous students. Uruha mastered it by sixteen. Iori and Chihiro copy it; Chihiro fakes it after watching its practitioners, Kuguri, the house, then the bearers themselves. Kiri Shirakai wants to behead the founder for saying women cannot.
Eyes closed is not theater. It is the curriculum. Iori’s seal breaks when she moves to shield a classmate that way. Samura’s last work is the style as ethics: one cut, no extra motion. See Samura, Iori, Kiri, and Kuguri.
Named blade techniques and the innate list above now live, with extensions, on the technique catalog. Hokuto’s puppet, Tafuku’s domain, Kasen’s seals, Subaru’s duplication, Bingo’s Mako, Yukisada’s regeneration, and Ariu’s Sumika are there rather than as orphans in this list. This page stays the argument: yōjutsu and yōtō share a kanji, and a contract is how the kanji leaves the body.
