The Sazanami are a criminal sorcerer clan who have run the Rakuzaichi, an annual black-market auction of artifacts, weapons, and people, for more than two hundred years. They are older than the Kamunabi. They are older than the Hishaku. They are not a government and not a conspiracy of ten. They are a firm. The 208th listing is Shinuchi. The eleventh head is Kyora. Isou is the clan’s burial-force technique. The Storehouse (蔵, Kura) is the head’s subspace: loot, prisoners, weather as environmental control. In clan history, almost no one holds both. Hakuri does, once he stops scattering his own spirit energy. That dual inheritance is why the Kamunabi bother to keep Chihiro after the building falls. Bearers can be un-armed and re-armed without a siege. It is also why the Hishaku hunt Hakuri afterward. The auction was a building. Hakuri is the building that walks.
Kyora, eleventh head
Polite, absolute, father of a discarded son. He will sacrifice children to keep the Rakuzaichi on the calendar. When Chihiro corners him in the collapsing Storehouse, Kyora unsheathes Magatsumi and almost becomes someone else. He dies as himself, and uses the last of it to admit, too late, what he did to Hakuri. The Sword Master looks through an auctioneer’s eyes and still does not get a new bearer. Proxy is not contract. Volume 3’s jacket puts him with Chihiro and Hiyuki: auction green-black against flame. Volume 5’s crowded jacket is Shinuchi heat. The title Fervent is the crowd. The man running the crowd is already dying into a masterpiece he listed but did not understand. Yura cracked the seal and left the ropes. Kyora thought he was selling a box. He was holding a person.
Hakuri
Disowned for perceived lack of ability. The inability was self-doubt: familial abuse scattered his spirit energy so Isou would not answer. When he chooses Chihiro, the architecture answers. He awakens Isou against Soya, then Storehouse, and becomes one of two Sazanami ever to hold both. He can register a person and their charged possessions and move Enchanted Blades across the country. He returns Tobimune to Samura at Senkutsuji. He is the reason Magatsumi can be hidden when Yukisada splits the HQ barrier. Full file: Hakuri Sazanami.
Chihiro is the first person who treats the discarded son as a partner rather than defective inventory. That is the moral of the auction arc, under the architecture. The firm called children stock. The son became the warehouse. The 208th Rakuzaichi ends. The clan goes into hiding. Soya crawls out of rubble with amnesia, deduces he is Sazanami, and rediscovers a love of harming the weak. The Tou
The Tou (濤), Special Defense Corp, are the four best fighters in the clan. They follow the head and protect the auction.
Soya, older brother, heir apparent, obsessive about Hakuri, twisted affection as abuse. Once envious of Tenri’s superior sorcery, later fixated on the “untalented” brother. Demands Hakuri’s return, then resolves to kill him, then loses when Hakuri masters the house. Amnesia after the building falls. Still a Sazanami in the ways that matter to victims.
Tenri, younger brother, short blades, desperate to make Kyora proud. Uses a half-stable Datenseki tool against Chihiro. Jellyfish manifestation, then the pop. He dies of the lesson Part 2 is currently smelting in public: the mineral without Kunishige’s eyes is a crater. Sojo died of the same lesson at industrial scale.
Tamaki, older sister, one of the three who confront Chihiro and Shiba at the estate. Lies to Kyora that Soya is unwell; Tenri corrects her. Enji, older brother, begs Shiba for death after Tenri. Shiba tells him to live and raise what is left of the clan so another child does not eat a stone. That is Shiba’s ethics in one refusal. The Tou are not a raid team. The 208th
Shinuchi listed. Enten surrendered on purpose so the seventh blade can scout the Storehouse on its own charge. Mr. Inazuma (Yuu) wants his sister. Hiyuki arrives as the Kamunabi’s weapon. Yura walks the floor. Chihiro spends Cloud Gouger’s last charges to take Enten back. Prisoners leave. The Storehouse vanishes. Chihiro hands Magatsumi to the state and keeps Enten by joining them. The Sazanami are not Hishaku. They sold a listing. They are not Kamunabi. They sold people. They are the book’s argument that an institution can be two centuries old and still be a crime the whole time.
