The liking
Subaru Urita is a smith. He is also a sushi chef. Kunishige barely ate. Together they start the Enchanted Blades. Part 2’s smelting chapters are that start, shown as labor rather than a montage of sparks. Subaru’s innate art is duplication. The war will use him as a wartime bearer, then as a man the Kamunabi relocate when the assassination pattern becomes obvious.
The six wartime swords are a joint crime the press later calls heroism. Enten is the seventh, the apology, the retraction. Subaru is in the first category. He took a liking anyway. That is the workshop’s original politics: two craftsmen, one mineral, a state that will not stop asking.
Relocation
When Sanso boxes start failing, Subaru is relocated rather than spent. He is not Uruha’s false death and not Samura’s life spend. He is the colleague the book keeps alive so the kiln still has a second pair of hands in memory. See Subaru and duplication.
