The school
Itsuo Shirakai’s Iai White Purity Style is printed as eyes closed. Samura and Uruha are the famous students. Kiri brings an odachi anyway. Chihiro copies off Kuguri and the house style, eyes open, then shut. Chapter 64, Become the Samurai. Chapter 65, Imitate. Chapter 70 names the school.
Closed eyes are not a power-up glow. They are a decision about what you will not look at while you cut. Samura erased a daughter so he would not have to look at a handle. Chihiro shuts his eyes so he can stand in that school’s argument without being enrolled.
Against weather
Sojo’s weather is spectacle. Cloaked Mei, True Realm as slaughter. Chihiro’s later closed-eye draw is the opposite method: less looking, more brief. See copy and Iai.
